Episode 4

Fade In

INT. – THE DETENTION ROOM – EVENING

JAKE, ZEKE, TAYLOR and MEGAN are sitting around a table, visibly bored. SETH is pacing up and down the room.

SETH (murmuring)
I can’t be trapped. I can’t.

JAKE
You’re all missing the obvious here.

They all turn to face him.

JAKE (continued)
The door may be locked, but we have a window. Windows smash.

MEGAN
So can doors.

JAKE
Yes. But unfortunately, we do not have a bulldozer, so that’s out of the question.

ZEKE
I’m not smashing a window.

SETH
I bet you would if your mate asked you to.

ZEKE
Hey. That’s out of order. Taylor’s a troublemaker. He can do it.

TAYLOR (sighing)
Up yours.

MEGAN gets to her feet. She lifts up a chair. Fade to black. The window can be heard shattering.

SETH (shocked)
Whoa, Megan! Why would you do that?!

MEGAN
I only did what guys wanted to.
JAKE
Hey, guys. I found a key.

Opening Titles

INT. – TAYLOR’S BEDROOM – AFTERNOON

A video camera has been set up in the middle of the room. It is filming TAYLOR, who is sitting on a chair. He speaks into the camera.

TAYLOR
Katie, I’ve made this video for you today to express my deep upset that you split up with me. The first thing that really annoys me with you is that you always seem to care about yourself. Never about anyone else. You’re not the only one who has problems. I’ve just been expelled from school, but you don’t see me complaining, do you?

Cut to
INT. – A CLASSROOM – MORNING

MR JONES is sitting at his desk, reading through a file. He lowers it afterwards, revealing to the camera that TAYLOR is sitting in front of him.

MR JONES
It’s quite a number of troublesome things you’ve raked up these past few years. Bullying pupils, swearing at teachers, pulling the fire alarm, breaking into lockers and dunking people’s heads down the toilet. That sort of behaviour will not be tolerated at this school.

TAYLOR
For the record, that locker incident can be fully justified.

MR JONES
Yeah. Funny how he changes his statement after you spoke with him.

Cut to
INT. – TAYLOR’S BEDROOM – AFTERNOON

TAYLOR is still speaking into the camera, which is recording him.

TAYLOR
I’ve been through quite a lot these past few years. I used to get bullied. It’s only now that I’ve begun sticking up for myself.

Cut to
INT. – THE SCHOOL CANTEEN – MORNING

TAYLOR is sitting at a table with his head slumped over the top of it. ZEKE sits at the table.

ZEKE
All right, Taylor?

TAYLOR looks up at him.

TAYLOR
What do you want?

ZEKE
Come to see how you were, that’s all.

TAYLOR
For your information, I’m not all right. I got the blame for what Megan did the other night. Why do I always have to get the blame?

ZEKE
(nodding) That’s good.

Cut to
INT. – TAYLOR’S BEDROOM – AFTERNOON

TAYLOR is still speaking into the camera, which is recording him.

TAYLOR
You always questioned my loyalty to you. I want you to know that I have never cheated on you. (pauses) Wait. There was that time at a party a few weeks back...

Cut to
INT. – INTERNET CAFE – MORNING

TAYLOR closes the locker, locking it. He picks up his bag, which is on the floor, and puts it on his back. MEGAN walks over to him.

MEGAN
Hey.

TAYLOR grunts.

MEGAN (continued)
What’s up with you? (suddenly realising) Oh, sorry.

TAYLOR
I’ll be glad to be out of the craphole. (pauses) By the way, get rid of the video. It’s not good for us.

TAYLOR walks out of the room, leaving MEGAN standing on her own.

Cut to
EXT. – ENTRANCE OF SCHOOL GROUNDS – MORNING

TAYLOR walks out of the grounds. He stands by the edge of the road. He turns and looks back at the school.

TAYLOR
Bye, then.

TAYLOR walks away.

Cut to
INT. – TAYLOR’S BEDROOM – AFTERNOON

TAYLOR is still speaking into the camera, which is recording him.

TAYLOR
With all this, I hope me and you can one day get back together. Goodbye, Katie.

The bedroom door opens. GIRL 1 stands in the doorway of the room.

GIRL 1
Taylor, I found that tape you were looking for.

TAYLOR
You have got to be kidding me.

INT. – THERAPY ROOM – AFTERNOON

MEGAN is laying on the bed staring at the ceiling. She talks with THERAPIST who is not shown on screen.

MEGAN
I saw these great pair of shoes in town. I had to put them back because I didn’t have the money.

THERAPIST
How did that make you feel?

MEGAN
Terrible. And to top things off, I found this lovely handbag.

Cut to
INT. – SCHOOL CORRIDOR – AFTERNOON

JAKE and ZEKE are walking slowly down the corridor, talking to each other. JAKE has his hands inside his trouser pockets.

ZEKE
Why don’t you ever talk about the band? It’s not as if you were kicked out, were you?

JAKE
It’s complicated.

They walk down a flight of stairs and see ROB, ALI and MAX standing in reception.

JAKE (continued)
That’s them.

INT. – THERAPY ROOM – AFTERNOON

MEGAN is laying on the bed, staring at the ceiling. She talks with THERAPIST, who is not shown on screen.

THERAPIST
How are your GCSES going?

MEGAN
Fine (pauses) Did I tell you about the new pair of jeans I got?

Cut to
INT. – SCHOOL CLASSROOM – AFTERNOON

ALI and MAX are sitting around a table. ROB is sitting on top of it. JAKE is sitting in front of them with ZEKE sitting at the back of the room, watching them.

ALI
Come back to the band. It’s not the same without you.

ROB
Truth is, the label are threatening to drop us. They say my vocals aren’t up to scratch. The looks are fine.

JAKE
I’ve moved on now. The band. It’s in the past.

ZEKE brings out a bag of popcorn from his rucksack. He opens it and begins to eat it.

MAX
Come on, dude. It’ll be fun.

JAKE
No. I’m doing it.

Cut to
INT. – THERAPY ROOM – AFTERNOON

MEGAN is laying on the bed, staring up at the ceiling. She talks with THERAPIST who is not shown on screen.

MEGAN
Why am I always single? I try and be nice to guys but they never show any interest in me.

THERAPIST
There’s plenty of time to find someone.

MEGAN
Try telling that to a friend of mine. Whenever I see her, she has a different guy hanging off her shoulders. It’s ridiculous.

Cut to
INT. – SCHOOL CLASSROOM – AFTERNOON

ALI and MAX are sitting around a table. ROB is sitting on top of it. JAKE is sitting in front of them, with ZEKE sitting at the back of the room, eating from the bag of popcorn.

JAKE
I’ve made up my mind, guys. I’m not coming back.

ALI
Are you sure?

JAKE nods. ROB, ALI and MAX get to their feet.

ROB
Cya later, bud.

ROB, ALI and MAX walk out of the room. JAKE looks across to ZEKE, then he gets to his feet and he walks out of the room. ZEKE quickly gets to his feet and hurries after him. Fade to black.

Cut to
INT. – SCHOOL CANTEEN – AFTERNOON

JAKE and ZEKE sit at a table together.

JAKE (reluctantly)
I’ve been thinking about what the band said and I’m gonna go. They made me realise how much I missed performing.

ZEKE
We’ll still be friends though?

JAKE
Yeah. Of course. (pauses) If I go now, I should be able to catch up with them.

JAKE gets to his feet and he hurries off. CODY, ZEKE’S friend, walks over to ZEKE.

CODY
Zeke, I gotta ask a favour.

ZEKE
(gets to his feet and turns to face him) Actually, I have a favour to ask you.

CODY
What is it?

ZEKE
Don’t report me for this.

ZEKE punches CODY in the face and he falls to the floor. ZEKE picks up his rucksack and he walks away.

Cut to
EXT. – FRONT OF SCHOOL – AFTERNOON

JAKE (narration)
My time at this school has been at times strange, but an amazing experience. I’ve made some brilliant friends. With me now leaving, it gives someone else a chance to take over.

ROB, ALI and MAX are standing by the front of school, talking to each other. JAKE walks over to them.

ALI
It’s good to have you back.

ROB
You ready to start rockin’?

JAKE
You try and stop me.

They all walk down the street.

JAKE (narration)
My name is Jake Wood and this is me saying goodbye.

Cut to
INT. – DETENTION ROOM – AFTERNOON

SETH is sitting alone at a table. AGENT 1 sits in front of him.

AGENT 1
It’s been a while, Seth.

SETH
How did you find me?
AGENT 1
I know everything about you. What time you wake up. What colour socks you’re wearing. Your second most viewed website, which isn’t Facebook.

SETH
Who are you?

AGENT 1
(leans forward) Now that would be telling.

SETH
(gets to his feet) I want to know. Tell me who you are!

SETH looks across to the other side of the room. ZEKE is sitting at a table, staring at him. He has a notebook in front of him with a pen in his hands.

ZEKE (concerned)
Is everything all right, mate?

SETH faces the front. No one is there.
